Your introduction to RATS The aim is always to entertain audiences but at times also to challenge. Recent shows include Much Ado About Nothing, Educating Rita and Yasmina Reza’s Life x3. The Harlequin Theatre is RATS home ground and is the location for up to three productions each year—two in the intimate studio space and one main house production. The high standards set by RATS are reflected in the successes the group has had in the Southern Counties Drama Festival (the local first round of the All England Theatre Festival for One Act Plays) and subsequent rounds. The 2004 RATS entry was Harold Pinter’s The Dumb Waiter, and was awarded the Runner Up cup. This year we entered an original play, 4 Minutes to Love written by Oliver Cownden, playwright. We were runners up in the first round and performed well at the second round in Walton on Thames. The group boasts members who are skilled in all aspects of theatre—sound and lighting, set design and presentation as well as acting and directing. Experienced members are always keen to pass on their skills to new members or those wanting to broaden their knowledge. Underpinning all of this is the desire to enjoy what we do—we may aim high but we also aim to have fun ! Interspersed throughout the year are additional purely social events for members to get together for different activities—dinner, bowling, scavenger hunts, and even seeing fellow members perform with other groups.
