Sister George is a popular character in the leading BBC radio Soap Opera 'Applehurst'. For six years she has been the public's favourite midwife as she rides around the village offering help, common sense and advice for all the villagers’ minor ailments. But her days are numbered! The new BBC Controller, Mrs Mercy, thinks that the serial needs some new life. June Buckridge, the actress playing Sister George, is scared! June, who lives with a younger women Childie, anticipates the threat of her 'serial' death as well as the threat to her relationship with Childie as Mrs Mercy starts to show an interest in Childie.

The play, a comedy by Frank Marcus, portrays the threats to relationships when big personal changes occur. An unusual and entertaining play that reflects the mid-sixties when relationships were private.
